League of Legends error codes and how to fix them

League shows a code or a short message when the client cannot patch, log in or start. Find yours below; the steps are in the order to try them.

A critical error has occurred	Overlay programs interfere with logging in	Close overlay programs such as Steam, Discord or the EA app. Delete the Config and DATA folders in League's install folder.
Unexpected Login Error	An unstable connection stops updates and login	Restart your router. Change your DNS server.
